Paint for Food

On September 24th 2009, The Niapele Project and Raw Canvas are hosting “Will Paint for Food”, a unique evening of painting, music and entertainment. Between 5:30 pm and midnight, guests will be raising funds to provide daily meals to 600 vulnerable school children in Liberia who benefit from The Niapele Project’ School Nutrition Initiative.

The event is an opportunity for Vancouverites to come together and make a difference as a community. In addition to its atmospheric cafe/lounge, Raw Canvas has a public painting studio where up to 20 guests at a time will be able to paint individual or group canvases, under the guidance of local painters such as Graham Campbell and Rae Maté.

Energized by the acoustic sounds of Vancouver-based Honey & the Money and Kathi Reid, guests “painting for food” will be able to let loose their creative instincts, all the while giving children in post-conflict Liberia the chance to have a daily meal.

In keeping with the artistic theme of the evening, a silent auction will also give guests the opportunity to bid on paintings by local artists Graham Campbell, Rae Maté and Kass Reich, as well as photography by Brown Lion Photos.

The “Will Paint for Food” event will also feature a raffle draw, with prizes from local businesses including Sephora, Skoah, Suki’s, West Coast Hot Yoga, Mountain Equipment Co-op, the CULTCH, designers Terri Potratz and Arleigh Frank, as well as restaurants such as Glowbal, Regional Tasting Lounge, La Regalade and Hamilton Street Grill.

Co-founders and directors of The Niapele Project, Penelope Chester and LA-based Celina Guich, will be present to detail the work of the organization and to share their experiences in designing and implementing projects for vulnerable children in West Africa.
